Hello,

This is the ninth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites- quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of quality in all areas of their lives. I have received great praise throughout my life for my ability to find the most accurate, succinct and quality information about products, experiences, fun facts, you name it. With my affinity for research and the ability to compile the best of the best out there, I feel compelled to share my wealth of knowledge. Because I value your time, this newsletter intends to share my findings with you on a routine basis in digestible and curated morsels. Check out this week’s findings below!

Jeans Fit For A Musician:

KATO Jeans + Laundress

These jeans are the cutting edge of denim. They are the perfect blend of style and functionality. I’ve always loved the concept of raw and selvedged denim (for more info on Japanese selvedged denim, click here) I hung up my raw denim desires until I found KATO. Raw denim requires a break-in period where the jeans are restrictively tight, stiff, and not comfortable or functional. Kato forged new ground with the idea that comfort and selvedged denim didn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Through this idea, they birthed 4-way stretch selvaged denim. These are my favorite jeans I have ever owned. They have all the vintage appeal of high quality Japanese selvedged denim and were comfortable right off the rack.

Want your favorite pair of jeans to last a little longer?

Check out the Laundress’s denim kit and a how-to guide to get the most out of any denim you purchase

Drawbacks:

  • Higher price point than your average jeans
  • I found there to be inconsistencies in the fit of the same style and sizes. I would recommend finding a Kato stockiestand try a few pairs on or purchase multiple pairs online and return the ones that don’t fit.
  • They don’t come in lengths so if you are not into cuffing your jeans you will have to get them tailored. Though, part of the style of selvaged denim is showing off the selvedge ID

Watch Music’s Profound Effect On People with Alzheimer’s

Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory:

Music can touch people in ways that we might never imagine or know. Have you ever had a thought and then go blank on what it was? Now imagine having Alzheimer’s and that void being your everyday reality. This film deals with the subject of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and how music therapy reconnects them with their lost memories. This documentary is inspiring to say the least. It reminded me of the power music possesses and can transmit to a listener. It was amazing to watch music be the spark that reignited people’s memories as they came alive inside.

Quote:

“The person who overplays when the music calls for less shines more light on themselves and less on others. They equate that to be loud is to be seen.

The person who underplays when the music calls for more shines less light on themselves and more on others. They equate that to be quite is to be unseen.

The people who are present and dynamic with the music shine more light on themselves and others. They feel no desire to be seen. They are fulfilled before they play a single note.”
