Wisdom And Stories From Paul McCartney, Leland Sklar, Bryan Sutton And More – Sound Bites #14

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the fourteenth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites-quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of freeing themselves in all areas of their lives, both personal and professional. I have received great praise throughout my life for my ability to find the most accurate, succinct and quality information about products, experiences, fun facts, you name it. With my affinity for research and the ability to compile the best of the best out there, I feel compelled to share my wealth of knowledge. Because I value your time, this newsletter intends to share my findings with you on a routine basis in digestible and curated morsels. Check out this installment’s findings below!

I AM Listening:

Cody Fry – Symphony Sessions

I had the pleasure of working with this guy when I was band-leading for Hunter Hayes. We needed a replacement for a run of shows while our regular keys/guitar/vox took time off to attend the birth of his child. (something I strongly encourage others to do) It is not easy to find a capable multi-instrumentalist, that is available, and can come in with no rehearsal and nail a show, etc…Not only did Cody do all of that, I later come to find it was only the tip of the pinky finger of his talents as a musician. As the son of a conductor, he has carried on the torch of being a very gifted composer and orchestrator too. Cody’s unique blend of multi-genre music drawing from jazz, classical, pop, funk and more has taken me on a listening journey I can not get enough of. I foresee a very bright career for this guy and am excited to share what he is doing with others.

I AM Ruminating On:

Peter Crone Instagram Post

I AM really particular about the resources I get excited about. Often there are some great qualities in information people share and a lot that falls short for me. Peter Crone is someone I keep coming back to. It is apparent that he has taken a very deep look at life and being human. His unique way of explaining things is so simple and yet stops me in my tracks. I think, how did I not see that before now? This simple Instagram post is an example of that. It is clear to me this guy has put in the work looking deeply into the shadows most of us run away from.

I AM Inspired By:

Paul McCartney Podcast Interview

I started listening to this podcast, Smartless, for relief away from the things I am always thinking about, like music. Still, the music finds me and I find it. This interview was way more insightful than I expected from the three goofballs that lead this podcast. What Paul shares about being a celebrity and adorned by many, family, and more were so inspiring. Being considered by myself and many a pinnacle of music, his words and insights carried a lot of weight. It reminded me that in a world and industry where it is so easy to be superficial, there is still room and space to be a class act.

I AM Watching:

Leland Sklar Shares Stories About Phil Collins and Sussudio

I’ve always enjoyed hearing stories from the session veterans about people, records, and songs I grew up listening to. It was always a perk of brushing elbows with some of the more seasoned players. I listened to my dad’s vinyl of Phil Collins No Jacket Required on my mom’s turntable a lot growing up. While studying songwriting it was awesome to hear all that Leland Sklar had to share about the song Sussudio in this video. Both the studio tracking and playing it live.

I AM Learning:

Bryan Sutton Guitar Lesson

I never cease to be amazed by the musicianship of the Nashville session players. The information shared by Bryan Sutton about how he thinks about playing guitar and the philosophy of music reaches so far beyond the scope of this video and music in general. He was speaking from a place that was profound and then demonstrates how to apply that most fundamentally on the guitar. I’ve heard a lot of guitar players out there who could benefit from a tune-up to their fundamentals and this would be a great place to start. It helped me greatly as I am expanding my facility on the guitar.

Music, Cars, And Money Are Driving Me Mad : Sound Bites #13

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the thirteenth installment of Sound Bites.

Because I value your time, this newsletter intends to share my findings with you on a routine basis in digestible and curated morsels. Check out this week’s findings below!

I AM Listening:

Billy Joel – The Stranger Legacy Edition

Billy Joel’s ability to capture such real and honest feelings still gets me. I feel the core of music is to translate and communicate feelings and experiences we have as spiritual beings in a human experience. He can paint a picture lyrically, melodically, and musically rich and still somehow makes it super palatable. It is what has kept him on the short list of artists who I keep coming back to and never get board. Inspired by my co-parent Kerry who sent me the song “Vienna” on a day I was feeling really overwhelmed, it sparked a desire to listen to the entire Billy Joel catalog start to finish. The Legacy Edition of the Stranger with a bonus of live recordings is the one I chose to share with you guys. It has a version I’ve never heard of the song “The Entertainer” one of my favorite songs of his. It speaks to the tensions and pressures of being an artist in the music industry. It also includes some alternate lyrics and other cool gems. Check it out.

App I AM Using:

Gas Buddy App

As musicians we can rack up miles on our car pretty quickly. We often drive all over town for coffee meetings, sessions, rehearsals and gigs. Before you know it, you’re gas tank is on “E”. Gas prices are high right now. Even with the high gas prices there is still a price spread of up to 60 cents per gallon depending on which station you choose. How do I know that? It’s not because I study the gas market. It’s from using the free gas buddy app. You simply turn it on and click the “find gas” button wherever you are and it will find you the best price on gas near you. Don’t think it’s worth the effort? The difference between what you could save on gas annually by using this app is $443.52. That calculation was made using a 22gal tank filling up once a week at the lowest and highest price using the app right now. Maybe it’s still not worth it to you. If that’s true I would encourage you to instead check out the book Atomic Habits. With 84,748 5 star reviews author James Clear (@JamesClear) explains how it’s the tiny changes that create remarkable results. What better place to start than with something you have to do as long as you are choosing to own and drive a vehicle.

I AM Reading:

Rich Dad Poor Dad

Do you desire relief from the hustle of wondering where your next gig is gonna come from and the pressure of relying on your ability to actively earn that income for the rest of your life or at least the foreseeable future? Maybe you just want to take a vacation without the emotional stress of feeling like you have to get back to performing to make next month’s bills? If you answered yes to any or all of that keep reading because this book addresses all those obstacles and was music to my ears when I read it. It cuts through the dogma of what a lot of people believe surrounding jobs and money. It also address emotions as it relates to money. A lot of books on the topic of money don’t address this importat element. It showed me that there is a light beyond working long hours to earn an income if I am intentional in directing where the money I do earn goes. Don’t be fooled by the title like I was thinking it wasn’t for me unless I was a middle age parent who wanted to be rich. I was wrong. It has everything to do with comparing and contrasting the belief systems of two dad’s that author Robert Kiyosaki had growing up teaching him about money. One path, the path of his rich dad, lead to abundant passive income and freedom if you can learn how to make your money work for you. The other path, the path of his poor dad, lead to working a lot harder for your money to earn it while different sources siphon it away from you. If you are someone in the music industry who’s income is dependent upon you showing up to work but desire to free yourself financially from that path I can’t recommend this book enough. Don’t take my word for it. This book is on the amazon’s best sellers list with an average 4.5 stars and 83,128 reviews. I was so inspired by this book I’ve already read his follow-up book Rich Dad’s Cash Flow Quadrant: Guide To Financial Freedom and am in the middle of Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing

Small Change That Made A Big Difference In My Happiness Level:

Rain-X Wiper Blades

A set of wiper blades might seem like a boring item or even out of place to post about in a music newsletter. In a lot of ways it is. However, what I feel is important here is not the wipers, (although they have been the best wiper blades I’ve ever had) it’s why. I had a bit of a mental shift recently after listening to a podcast interview on the Tim Ferris Show with Mr. Money Mustache. (@mrmoneymustache) (@timferriss) In this interview he talks about spending money on things that might appear seemingly insignificant but actually return a high level happiness every single day you use this item. We often look for the one big experience, like an amazing concert, or one special dinner out, and overlook the small ways we could spend that money that could sometimes have a higher return of happiness on something that might not be as special but would improve the quality of your life everyday. For me it was wiper blades. If not wiper blades, what is something small you could spend money on that would improve the quality of your life everyday? Maybe get yourself a REALLY nice drum key, or a REALLY nice guitar cable that would improve the quality of your tone every time you plug-in your guitar or bass to throw a few ideas out there.

The Emotions of Being Human. Are You In Tune Or Out Of Tune With Them? : Sound Bites #12

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the twelfth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites-quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of “living in the pocket” in all areas of their lives, on stage and off stage. I have received great praise throughout my life for my ability to find the most accurate, succinct and quality information about products, experiences, fun facts, you name it. With my affinity for research and the ability to compile the best of the best out there, I feel compelled to share my wealth of knowledge. What I AM Listening To:

Coldplay – ❤️ (Human Heart)

I feel Coldplay really hit it out of the park with this song. There are special moments where all the elements come together in the most harmonious way. This song was that for me. The lyrics, the mix, the guest appearances by Jacob Collier and We Are KING, the ability of this song to state something so simple yet so profound. This song for me relates deeply to the collective acceleration we are experiencing, having to confront our emotional wounds and other unseen parts. We are remembering how fragile we are as humans in many ways.

“My human heart,

only got a human heart

I wish it didn’t run away

I wish it didn’t fall apart…”

What I AM Reading:

The Emotion Code

This book came to me through a dialogue with Patrick Durkin, owner of The Wellness Enterpriseand has been nothing short of amazing. I confided in him about a lot of emotional tension I was experiencing at the time. He was supportive and kind and worked through what I was facing over the phone with me. He then preceded to recommend The Emotion Code. Emotions are one of the underlying causes of SO much tension in our being. This book contained a big missing piece in what I’m creating with Source Science Sound. I have implemented the practices in this book on myself with great results. I’m also currently in the trial period of practicing the emotional code on a few select people as well. I believe being human inherently means you are experiencing emotions. Through two years of somatic therapy I’ve learned that we can ignore what we are feeling but it doesn’t mean the emotions are not there. Many people including myself perform elaborate mental and physical acrobatics in order to avoid their emotions and/or cut off the emotions before they are done. This traps the energy of the emotions in our bodies and then we are carrying that around as emotional baggage. How do you release these trapped emotions? This book will tell you. Check it out.

Article I AM Reading:

5 Reasons Why Emotional Intelligence Is the Future of Work

If you have been feeling alone in what you are feeling at work or at home maybe you are not alone in feeling this way? This article really captured me by bringing more light to being more emotionally present with ourselves and others in any experience. This feels like an important evolution we are collectively moving into right now.

What I AM watching:

Validation Man

This video is an awesome depiction of how powerful it is to receive and give validation to ourselves and what happens when we don’t. When we align with the frequency of love, the wave of overtones it creates all around us is palpable. Self acceptance and unconditional love, the interdependent good and bad pieces, that make up the whole of who we are is the most fundamental key to happiness. If you’re in a paradigm that you are dissatisfied with watch this video and try once a day saying some loving things to yourself and see what happens.

Quote I AM Resonating With:

Independence is a misnomer because the last thing a drummer wants is his limbs to work independently. What you should work for is what I call interdependence, where each limb knows exactly what the others are doing and how they work together, not independently.

Commitment with Clapton, Honesty with Sara Bareilles, and Shadows On The Path : Sound Bites #11

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the eleventh installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites-quality information in bite-size piecesis for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of “living in the pocket” in all areas of their lives, on stage and off stage. What I’m Listing To:

Eric Clapton – From The Cradle

Are you in or are you out? As creatives and having tendencies toward our right brain, committing to something can feel difficult. The advent of digital recording facilitated a multitude of creative possibilities. It also opened the door to not having to commit to musical decisions. Eric Clapton went all in on this record. He committed fully to the style and the process doing nothing but the blues AND cutting everything live on the floor with full band and vocals. This forces one to look at what is worth holding on to and when it is more valuable to let go of the perfect imperfections. After years and years of digesting blues records, I still come back to this one being one of my favorites. Check it out. For even deeper insight into Clapton’s thought process and feelings about this record check out the interviews below.

What I’m Reading:

Shadows On The Path

The title speaks for itself but I would encourage you to take a deeper look and so would author Abdi Assadi. This book originally came to me when I was questioning everything about pursuing a spiritual path of any kind. It helped me that the book got testimonials from both Sheryl Crow and Sting who said:

Shadows on the Path is not a self-help book. Nor is it one man’s spiritual diatribe. It is a glimpse into the depths of what it means to face one’s wounding and to hold the weight of it until it becomes weightless. It is a guide through the process of healing. This is a book that spoke to me on every level and has been a constant ever since. – Sheryl Crow, singer-songwriter

Shadows on the Path is a word-bomb planted beneath the altar in the church of spiritual complacency, a grenade tossed into the fortified bunker of the ego, and a surgical laser to burn the clouds from the eyes of the unseeing. It is a dangerous book, only to be read with caution and by those ready and willing to wake up from the long sleep. – Sting, singer-songwriter

Quote I’m Resonating With:

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it’s normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

How Coldplay and Laurence Hammond Brave the Unknown and More : Sound Bites #10

What I’m Listing To:

Old Dominion @olddominionmusic – New York At Night

I’m a huge fan of this band. Old Dominion is comprised mostly of songwriters and masters of their craft. The creative use of wordplay and imagery in “New York at Night” is exceptional. It’s also supported by a great track.

Coldplay to Pause Touring Until Concerts are ‘Environmentally Beneficial’

Habits can be a hard thing to shift. The music industry as a whole has a very strong habit and cycle of create music, make a record, tour to support that record, and then repeat. When Coldplay’s newest record came out, “Everyday Life” they did a streamed live concert from a rooftop in Jordan. Typically, an event like this would be to support not just the record but a tour as well. I felt really surprised and excited to read about their pursuits to carry the torch of change through shifting how they choose to tour.

Jeans Fit For A Musician:

KATO Jeans + Laundress

These jeans are the cutting edge of denim. They are the perfect blend of style and functionality. I’ve always loved the concept of raw and selvedged denim (for more info on Japanese selvedged denim, click here) I hung up my raw denim desires until I found KATO. Raw denim requires a break-in period where the jeans are restrictively tight, stiff, and not comfortable or functional. Kato forged new ground with the idea that comfort and selvedged denim didn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Through this idea, they birthed 4-way stretch selvaged denim. These are my favorite jeans I have ever owned. They have all the vintage appeal of high quality Japanese selvedged denim and were comfortable right off the rack.

Want your favorite pair of jeans to last a little longer?

Check out the Laundress’s denim kit and a how-to guide to get the most out of any denim you purchase

Drawbacks:

  • Higher price point than your average jeans
  • I found there to be inconsistencies in the fit of the same style and sizes. I would recommend finding a Kato stockiestand try a few pairs on or purchase multiple pairs online and return the ones that don’t fit.
  • They don’t come in lengths so if you are not into cuffing your jeans you will have to get them tailored. Though, part of the style of selvaged denim is showing off the selvedge ID

Watch Music’s Profound Effect On People with Alzheimer’s

Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory:

Music can touch people in ways that we might never imagine or know. Have you ever had a thought and then go blank on what it was? Now imagine having Alzheimer’s and that void being your everyday reality. This film deals with the subject of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and how music therapy reconnects them with their lost memories. This documentary is inspiring to say the least. It reminded me of the power music possesses and can transmit to a listener. It was amazing to watch music be the spark that reignited people’s memories as they came alive inside.

Quote:

“The person who overplays when the music calls for less shines more light on themselves and less on others. They equate that to be loud is to be seen.

The person who underplays when the music calls for more shines less light on themselves and more on others. They equate that to be quite is to be unseen.

The people who are present and dynamic with the music shine more light on themselves and others. They feel no desire to be seen. They are fulfilled before they play a single note.”

Who is blurring the Lines Between Genres? How does Music and Laundry Fit Together? : Sound Bites #8

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the eighth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites- quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of quality in all areas of their lives. Check out this week’s findings below!

What I’m listening to:

Casey Driessen – 3D (@caseydriessen)

If you stay open, share and receive without limitation you can find gold in the least expected places. While in Bozeman, MT for a family wedding my partner Kerry, daughter Stella, and I took a detour to visit Melena Metnz, my partner’s Astrology teacher and mentor. Her husband Taner (@t_metz) shared a track with me off this record and it immediately captivated me. In taking a deeper dive into the record I found a cornucopia of old and new, electronic and acoustic, improvisation and structure. This record’s sonic palette is expansive but incredibly balanced simultaneously. Driessen blurs the lines between genres and forges a path that is uniquely his own.

Vibrational Frequency of This Record: 742

Clean Ingredient Laundry Products that Actually Work:

The Laundress (@thelaundress) – Click Here to check out the products

Even artists at the peak of their career still take the time and find tranquility in doing laundry. Check out the video of the cross-branding between John Mayer and The LaundressThe Pit Kit (Signature Detergent, All-Purpose Beach Alternative, Stain Solution, and a Brush) came as a recommendation to me from Alessandro Giannetti (@guidedlighthealing). When intuiting the level of effectiveness of this product it is a 9 on a scale of 1-10. After using the stain solution once with the appropriate technique I was blown away by the results.

Drawbacks:

The cost of the products are more but the extra cost for me is well worth having a product that I know is not harmful to me or my clothes

The products are predominantly available online and not something that you can run out and get quickly at your local store but they offer subscription programs as an alternative so you don’t have to deal with it every time you need to purchase more

Quote That I Love:

“The fact that there is a highway to hell and only a stairway to heaven says a lot about expected traffic”

I also know through years of talking with many of you that I’m not alone. Why does this happen? I’ve concluded that no matter what we pursue in life if we are not happy and fulfilled from within first, then anything we give our time and energy will be colored by our unfulfillment. Unfulfilment is the result of internal imbalance. Like a movie projector, any internal discontentment is projected onto our external experiences from the inside out. Our outside world is merely an effect of all of our combined thoughts, actions, and emotions we’re constantly feeling inside. By recentering yourself from within, the world outside of you will change automatically. What will this result in? People being magnetized to you when you walk in a room, it will lead to more gigs, standing out in auditions, feeling encouraged instead of discouraged to practice your instrument or given trade more, better relationships with the ones you love, and a renewed love for music and life. Music As a Language, My Favorite Trail Mix, and The Edge of Creativity : Sound Bites #7

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the seventh installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites- quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of quality in all areas of their lives. Check out this week’s findings below!

Incredible Ted Talk Video That Had Me in Tears

Victor Wooten : Music As A Language

Here is the write up from youtube…In Music as a Language Wooten makes the case for learning music in the same way as we learned our first language, calling for a more natural, less academic approach. He makes the point that, as babies, we weren’t taught our first language or corrected when we made a mistake. We didn’t even know we were beginners and got to ‘jam’ with people much better than us. Wooten draws on his own musical education as an example of how taking this approach can deliver great results.

Favorite Long-Standing Trail Mix : Perfect Balance

After learning how much more I enjoyed the taste of anything that was sourced with local ingredients I have gravitated toward products that met this criterion ever since. The quality of ingredients and the perfectly balanced recipes (just as the company name states) is what sets this trail mix apart from all the others. Perfect Balance uses a blend of organic and raw ingredients that significantly enhance the taste over all the other trail mixes you could purchase. I love even your basic trail mix but if you are looking for something that is next level, give this a try. It’s been three years since I found The Perfect Balance and I still haven’t found a trail mix for me that tops it. All three of the blends they do are fantastic but Gold was the one that got me hooked.

Drawbacks:

It’s a small company and can only be purchased in-store at select locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii.

If you don’t live in one of the four states mentioned above you have to order it through their website which takes more effort and time but will make the pay-off that much sweeter

Due to the quality of all the ingredients, the product price point is much higher than the average trail mix at $9.00 for a 10oz bag

Video That Really Struck a Chord With Me

The Making of In-Repair by John Mayer

Watch as John Mayer, Steve Jordan, and Charlie Hunter confront the challenge of walking into the studio with nothing and walking out with what ended-up being “In Repair” on the Continuum record. I feel this an amazing representation of great musicians unifying at the highest levels of creativity and the results of that.

Quote I’m resonating with that speaks to my current feeling of how language can be limiting

“The contradiction so puzzling to the ordinary way of thinking comes from the fact that we have to use language to communicate our inner experiences which in its very nature transcend linguistics”

Listening to Music with This Approach Changed my Life Forever : Sound Bites #6

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the sixth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites- quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of quality in all areas of their lives. Take A Listen…

Joe Pass- I Remember Charlie Parker

Charlie Puth- Voicenotes

Arturo Sandoval- Dear Diz (Everyday I Think Of You)

The Night Game- The Night Game

Tinariwen- Elwan

I’ve been listening to a lot of new music in the last few weeks. Listening to new music is an amazing way to expand your musical repertoire and vocabulary. It also really helps deepen your creative well and have more to draw on when creating and performing. I attribute a big part of my diverse and perpetually expanding musical catalog to my first drum teacher John Yarling. He would send me home every week with four or five cd’s that I never heard before. As part of my homework, I would listen to every track on every cd once through. He said “I don’t care if you love it or hate it, just listen to it”. At times this was really difficult, like when he sent me home with Ponga. Other times it was music to my ears, like the first time I heard Simon Phillips play drums on the record Tambu by Toto. Still one of my favorite bands to this day. It’s the music that I was uncomfortable with and took me to the edge of what I felt was palatable that helped me grow the most as a musician. Listening to music in this way helps me experientially find an increased balance between being subjective (partial minded) or objective (even minded) and helped me stay open in hearing and absorbing everything the music has to offer.

For this newsletter, I decided to do as my drum teacher did for me and invite you to listen to these five records top to bottom once and see what you can extract out of it. Remain as objective as possible. See how you feel during and after listening. Look for the favorable and not so favorable qualities about the music and see if you can find a balance between the two. This might be challenging to name qualities you don’t like for the music you do like and qualities you do like in the music you don’t like. That is the intention of the exercise. This will help bring the awareness that all qualities exist in all music while simultaneously spotlighting your preferences by how the music makes you feel and what you gravitate towards.

I use to spend countless amounts of money on cd’s but now with the advent of streaming and youtube, you can listen to all the music listed for free. You could also choose to listen without advertisements for a monthly fee. I pay $9.99 a month for premium Spotify. It’s an amazing value for the access to seemingly endless quantities of music you receive in exchange.

005 – Sound Bites

By | Sound Bites

Hello,

This is the fifth installment of Sound Bites.

Sound Bites- quality information in bite-size pieces is for anyone in or associated with the music industry who is in the pursuit of quality in all areas of their lives. I have received great praise throughout my life for my ability to find the most accurate, succinct and quality information pertaining to products, experiences, fun facts, you name it. With my affinity for research and the ability to compile the best of the best out there, I feel compelled to share my wealth of knowledge. Because I value your time, the intention of this newsletter is to share my findings with you on a routine basis in digestible and curated morsels. Check out this week’s findings below!

I feel there is a big misperception regarding the financial status of people on stage or in other arenas of the music industry. People think if you’re on stage, you’ve “made it” and are making lots of money. In most cases this is a skewed perception of the truth. There are countless stories of extremely talented artists and musicians being financially taken advantage of by someone. Like a relationship if you don’t prioritize money it’s not going to choose you and will go to someone else that will. In your day to day choices are you putting energy into prioritizing money? Examples: setting money aside for savings, taxes, and asking if the purchase you’re making is actually serving you in moving toward your larger goals? Beethoven or any great composer had to learn the fundamentals, like reading and writing music, long before they composed any of their masterpieces. The foundational understanding required to grow and sustain a balanced relationship with money is the same as having a mastery in music or any area of life. You have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. If you try to run before you learn how to crawl and walk, write a symphony before you know how to read or write music, or manage a large amount of wealth before you can manage a small amount you are going to fall flat on your face. At the least you will be stumbling every step of the way until you can make the micro adjustments that will stabilize you moving that fast. Without an understanding of the fundamentals of wealth management or actionable steps toward learning about wealth management the money will slip right through your fingers.

All the decisions you make financially are a delicate balance between your thoughts, actions, and emotions. If any one of these are out of balance it will yield an imbalanced result. Just like when playing music you have to be “in the pocket.” That sweet spot where all the musicians performing are in the groove. When all the parts that make up the whole are in alignment the results are amazing. Think about all the connection points and people that have to all be wired together and unified in order to make a show come off without a hitch. It’s mind boggling but people do it every night. That big show that you are either playing in or paid your hard earned money to go see started out with one cable. It’s difficult for people to observe that small decisions, compounded, like looking for free parking, and having one less drink, are what lead to the financial freedom you actually desire. Make the best investment you possibly can, in yourself and check out the resources in this newsletter and my previous newsletter,Sound Bites #3, and take your first step toward being financially sound.

Most resources are one dimensional or paint something to be black and white when the truth is much more multifaceted. As I continue to search these are the some of the best tools and resources that have helped me take the largest steps forward on my path toward financial freedom.

The Most Thorough Book I’ve Found On Wealth Building:

How to Make One Hell of a Profit and Still Go to Heaven

There are a lot of books out there on money. It’s hard to know which ones actually have the information that is going to help you breakthrough whatever financial barrier or obstacles you are currently confronted with. What makes this book different from the rest? It’s inclusive of everything you need to make a change in your life that is going to yield results. It offers the complete formula starting with the energetic principles all the way to the grounded actions. A lot of other information out there doesn’t address one or more pieces that I mentioned earlier in the newsletter. This book addresses energetic/emotions, mental/thoughts, and the physical/action aspects of wealth building. It’s also scalable and offers room for financial growth no matter what your current financial state is.

Drawbacks:

  • Feeling overwhelmed in learning all the misinformation we have been taught or told throughout our lives regarding money
  • Setting time aside to read the book and process all the new information in order to convert it to habitual actionable steps and see results

How I Turn Myself Into a Money Magnet Literally:

Studbaker Metals- Copper Money Clip

The energy of money is a powerful magnetizer. How we feel about our financial state has a strong impact on whether we are attracting or repelling more wealth. When we are emotionally in alignment with abundance, we attract more of it. As part of my everyday carry items I keep a day’s wage of a realistic yearly salary I’m working toward in a Studbaker money clip. This is also talked about in the book mentioned above. How to make a Hell of A Profit and Still Go To Heaven. I keep it on my person and never spend it. This physical representation of abundance and the correlated emotions in the form of cash helps remind me of how limitlessly abundant we actually are. In the end any money clip will do but, if you are looking for the high level of quality that I seek and support I would recommend Studbaker Metals. Studebaker Metals uses classic methods and the highest quality materials to hand forge products intended to last a lifetime.

Drawbacks:

  • Higher price point as a result of the quality materials and labor intensive process
  • Some products are made to order so it might be a longer waiting time between ordering and receiving the product than other companies

Quote That Resonated With Me:

“Life itself is your career, and your interaction with life is your most meaningful relationship. Everything else you’re doing is just focusing on a tiny subset of life in attempt to give it some meaning”. – Michael A. Singer
